Do Garage Door openers with battery backup require the battery to be working?

Posted by admin
Greg asked:

Hi All, I am thinking to buy a craftman 3/4 hp garage door opener with battery backup. I assume the battery will eventually fail. I’m wondering if the opener will still function without the battery or will I have to rush out an buy a new battery right away. The link below shows the model I am interested in: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00953918000P?vName=Tools&cName=Home+Security+%26+Garage+Door+Openers&sbf=Brand&sbv=Craftsman

The power to the opener should work if the battery is off.

The same battery backup is used only in power outage not to worry.

      The opener was still running.
