Do Garage Door openers with battery backup require the battery to be working?

Hi All, I am thinking to buy a craftman 3/4 hp garage door opener with battery backup. I assume the battery will eventually fail. I’m wondering if the opener will still function without the battery or will I have to rush out an buy a new battery right away. The power to the opener should work if the battery is off.

The same battery backup is used only in power outage not to worry.

The backup battery and some have leds on the first one years this is the backup battery and some have leds on the first one years ago.
