How do I put back my garage door to Auto after Manually closing it?

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011
Descartes asked:

Hello!
My garage door does not want to close this morning, though it moves only about 12 inches and it stopped. So I manually close it as I’m in a hurry! My problem is how to put it back to automatic when I come back this afternoon. I’m not sure if it will work, but first I want to try to put it back to auto, then, figure out the next problem. Well! If you have any suggestion for the 2 problems, I will appreciate it. Thank you.

How do I program a garage door remote to open my 25 year old garage door?

Sunday, April 17th, 2011
SJS asked:

I have an old garage door (no learn buttons) and an old garage door remote. I want to buy a new remote but don’t know how to program it without the learn buttons, etc. The current remote I have is of the old up/down switch variety and only has 8 switches. Can I buy a new opener and be sure that it will read the same 8 switch code? Can anyone offer advice or suggest where I can find a remote that learns automatically like the buttons in a car?

Thanks!

How do I properly grade the soil on the side of my garage?

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011
Haus asked:

The soil on one side of my garage has settled and water seeps into the garage when it rains. I want to increase the grade of the soil but I don’t know what % grade is best or what materials to use to increase the grade. Is 1 inch rise per horizontal foot sufficient or too much? Should the grade extend 6 feet from the garage wall or is that too much? Do I use dirt or rock or something else to form the grade?

How much does it cost to get a garage door repaired?

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011
Bea asked:

Extension springs (1 broken) all other parts look intact but need to be put back together. Live in Philadelphia, PA. No garage door opener. Metal door. Just want some average prices to see whether on not it’s worth it for me to get estimates and repairs since I hardly use the garage.
